About
Julie has 30 years experience as a clinical psychologist across both public and private settings. She completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in Psychology) in 1987 and Masters in Clinical Psychology in 1991, both at the University of Western Australia. Her expertise in psychological issues related to women’s and perinatal health developed at KEMH and she was the co-ordinator of a state-wide project “The Childbirth Stress & Depression Project”.

Julie is passionate about assisting people to enjoy a greater quality of life and optimal wellbeing. Julie offers evidence based psychological therapy for a variety of problems for people aged 16 and above, offering in person and Telehealth sessions. Her areas of interest include:
– anxiety, stress and trauma
– life transitions, including adjustment to parenthood, separation and divorce
– depression (including antenatal and postnatal)
– work stress and career changes
– grief and loss, including infertility and pregnancy loss
– eating disorders
– healthy lifestyle management
– preparation for labour
Approach
Julie utilises a wide range of therapy approaches depending on the presenting problems and the client’s needs. These approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy, mindfulness, hypnotherapy and longer-term therapy. She also provides life coaching.

Appointments

The number of sessions and frequency required will vary according to the type of problems and their severity and duration. This will be discussed with you at the end of the first session, and reviewed throughout the progress of treatment. If the matter is urgent, please contact the emergency department at your hospital, your General Practitioner or a 24 hour helpline such as Lifeline 131 114, Crisis Care 1800 199 008 or the Mental health Emergency Response Line 1300 555 788.
Fees
The 2024/25 Australian Psychological Society recommended Fee is $311. The fee for this practice is $280 for a standard session. If you are a concession card holder i.e. health care card or a full time student on Centrelink a concession is available. Please discuss this with Julie. Accounts can be paid by direct debit.
Referrals
A referral from a General Practitioner or Psychiatrist is required to access Medicare rebates for sessions. If you plan to use private health insurance you do not require a referral.
Medicare
Medicare rebates are available for Clinical Psychology services provided under a mental health care plan which is completed by your GP or a referral from a psychiatrist. This enables you access to 10 sessions per calendar year. You will require a review from your GP after the first 6 sessions and they will then provide a further referral for an additional 4 session if required. The current rebate from 1st July 2024 is $141.85.
Private Health
Private health insurance may provide rebates for Clinical psychology services which vary depending on the insurance provider and your level of cover. Please check with your insurance provider what they will cover.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel an appointment please provide 48 hours notice as this allows your appointment time to be filled by another client. A cancellation fee of 50% of the scheduled fee will be charged if less than 24 hours notice and a cancellation with less than 3 hours notice or missed appointment will be charged as a full fee.
Confidentiality
A secure client record is created containing contact details, referrals, and clinical notes. No information about you or your treatment will be released without your permission. A review letter is required to be written to the referrer after the 6th and 10th session or at the conclusion of treatment. The only exceptions to releasing information without a client’s consent is with a court subpoena or if you present a significant danger to yourself or someone else. In these latter cases professional duty of care overrides any issue of confidentiality.
